Meeting with Industry Professionals

If you're preparing for a meeting with an industry professional, like a manager or A&R team, you might be feeling unsure about what to do or what to expect. The country duo, Sibling Rivalry, shared a few tips with us for artists preparing for industry meetings.

What to Expect

In general, meetings will begin with 5-10 minutes of conversation and questions about the artist and their music. Then, the artist will often be asked to play two or three songs, and afterwards the conversation and questions will continue. Sometimes the industry professionals will offer feedback. If you don't get feedback, don't worry, this doesn't mean they didn't like what you did!

Tips for Improving Your Experience

  • Play your best songs and make sure they represent your sound.
  • Dress in something business casual that matches your brand as an artist.
  • Research who you are meeting with beforehand- projects they've been on and artists they've worked with- to show you understand who they are and what they do.
  • Know who your musical influences are. This can help you talk about your sound.
  • Be ready to accept criticism with a good attitude. Not only will this be a good learning experience for you, it will show them that you are open to advice.
  • Always be polite. Thank them for their time when you are finished!
