At Amp, we are passionate about making sure our artists are able to write the best songs they can by giving them access to some of the best songwriters out there.
One of our songwriting coaches, Shane Stevens, has worked with artists like Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Jordin Sparks, and Megan Trainor. He was kind enough to sit down with us at one of our recent Nashville camps and give us his top tips for writing a good song.
Shane's biggest piece of advice is to be honest and share your own story. Write what you know, because that is what people will believe.
Once you've started writing your story, challenge yourself to write lyrics that you haven't heard anyone else write. "As we like to say in country music, put furniture in it!" is how Shane puts it!
His third tip is to be interesting melodically and to try new things. His encouragement is to push yourself! This, he says, is what will get people interested in your music!
